There is a great benefit acquired from losing weight. Though losing weight is not easy, the long term effects brought by it would probably be of help to anyone considering to shed those unwanted and unhealthy pounds.

Weight loss prevents high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke
That is a three in one benefit from losing weight. It is a fact that heart disease and stroke are one of the primary reasons for disability and death in both men and women in the US. People who are overweight have a higher risk to have high levels of cholesterol in their blood stream as well as triglycerides (also known as blood fat).
Angina, one type of heart disease, could cause chest pains as well as a decrease in the oxygen pumped to the heart.
Sudden death also occurs from heart disease and stroke, and usually this strikes with very little warning, signs and symptoms.
It is a fact that by decreasing your weight by a mere five to ten percent, this could positively decrease the chances of you having or developing heart disease or a stroke. Plus, how your heart functions would also improve as well as your blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride count will decrease.
Weight loss prevents type 2 diabetes
Diabetes puts in jeopardy ones life as well as how one leads his or her life because of the complications that result from having it. Both types of diabetes, type one and type two are linked with being overweight. To those who already have diabetes, regular exercise and losing weight could help in controlling your blood sugar levels as well as the medication you may be currently taking. Increase your physical activity. You could simply walk, jog or dance. It helps get those blood streams moving as well as lose those unnecessary pounds.
Weight loss helps reduce your risk for cancer
Being overweight is linked with a number of kinds of cancer. Specially for women, the common types of cancer that is associated with being overweight include cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, ovary, breast, and colon. This is not meant to scare you, this is only to keep you informed. Men are at risk too from developing cancer if they are overweight. These include cancer of the colon, prostate and rectum. Extra weight, a diet high in fat and cholesterol should as much as possible be avoided.
Weight loss reduces sleep apnea
Or it could eliminate it all together. Sleep apnea is a condition wherein one could temporarily stop breathing for a brief period and then would continue to snore heavily. Sleep apnea could cause drowsiness or sleepiness during the day and because of being overweight could result in heart failure. Shedding those excess pounds could help in eliminating this problem.
Weight loss reduces the pain of osteoarthritis
When one weighs heavily, the joints of his or her knees, hips and lower back would have to exert double if not triple effort to carry him or her through out his / her waking, walking and moving life. This could cause tension and stress on these joints. Weight loss decreases the load these joints carry thus decreasing if not eliminating the pain of one who has osteoarthritis.

Diabetes in various forms affects up to 5percent of the world population with 12 million diabetics in Western Europe alone. Of the different ways in which diabetes presents, noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is probably the most commonly encountered genetic disease. NIDDM or Type II diabetes is multifactorial, depending also on environmental factors including obesity, sedentary lifestyles and nutritional imbalances.
Yoga has shown some beneficial results in curing diabetes. The yoga exercises that are prescribed for curing diabetes is different from hatha yoga exercise because it involves positions tailored to treat certain conditions, as well as meditation, relaxation and stretching exercises.
One of the studies conducted to cure diabetes was the one set up by the Yoga Biomedical Trust, founded in 1982 by biochemist Dr Robin Monro, and an Indian yoga research foundation which discovered that practicing yoga for 30 minutes a day for one month helped reduce blood glucose levels in some diabetics.
The yoga patients took part in one or two 90-minute sessions a week and were asked to practice at home. The classes included the specific yoga exercises of the spinal twist, the bow and abdominal breathing.
At the end of the 12 weeks blood sugar levels fell significantly in all patients in the group and were slightly raised in a control group which had not joined in the yoga sessions. Three yoga students managed to reduce their medication, including one man who had not changed his drug regime for 20 years.
It has been known for a long time that exercise is helpful for diabetics. Yoga therapy may help reduce stress levels which could play a part in maturity onset diabetes. But one drawback is that some patients would find it hard to keep up the regular sessions needed to sustain the benefit. All the patients said they would like to see these classes set up on a permanent basis but we don’t have the money.
It is not necessarily the exercise component of the yoga therapy package which is most important, because there is not enough physical exercise to account for the changes, but stress reduction has a lot to do with it. Stress hormones increase sugar levels in the blood. People also benefit from the stabilization of their moods which yoga brings, an increased feeling of well-being and a feeling of being more in control, which may help with their diet control.

Sweets are one of the most delectable and craved goodies that a person loves to eat. It’s probably one of the most favored tastes a person likes and whet for. Not only will it fill one’s hunger, but it also soothes the tongue and satisfies an appetite’s pleasure. And one of the most important things it does to the body is boosting the body cells’ energy, making the blood regulation flows smoothly and rejuvenated.
It is significant though to know that what the body needs is not just any intake of sweets, but rather the body needs to absorb the glucose of those sweets, since its that particular glucose or sugar that gives energy to the body and its cells. The glucose also is the main sugar that is measured to determine one’s blood sugar level. Although fructose and galactose are sugars also, it is the glucose that’s measured so that one would know if the blood sugar level of the body is within normal range or if one needs to take insulin to control this.
The blood sugar level is measured to know and check the amount of sugar, or glucose, in the blood. The reason why the blood sugar levels must be maintained within the normal range is because somehow an imbalance of the blood sugar levels would lead to damage in the small blood vessels. This in turn would result to other health related problems, which would attack the cardiovascular organs like the heart and arteries. What makes this even worse is that, the effects or complications brought about by diabetes will oftentimes appear after a couple of years or decades. This is why it is one’s responsibility to look out for his own blood sugar levels by having regular check-ups and consultation with a physician, so as to monitor the blood sugar levels. It’s better if one doesn’t take any risk when dealing with blood sugar issues.
If one is too busy and cannot spare a day with the doctor, then he can avail of the home testing kits to measure his blood sugar levels regularly. Just make sure you familiarize yourself with the testing kits to ensure that you have the correct information of your blood sugar levels or else it defeats the purpose. If you’re using a home testing kit, you also have to know the normal blood sugar levels and ranges, so that when you check your results later, you would know if you’re doing fine or if you need to be more careful with your sugar intake.
